How does a company known for producing premium chocolates entice others to bite into it's candy and have a high-class and rich experience?
One way is to pair the brand with a portrait artist from the early 20th century who was well known for her elegeant, charming, and eye catching paintings.
The task was to envision a series of paintings that would feature Toblerone bars in a subtle enough way to appear as an entire composition, rather than obvious product placement.
Gerda Wegener, a Danish portrait artist from the early 1900's, was involved in the Art Nouveau and Deco movements. Her paintings pushed the boundaries of her time and centered around beautiful portrait models who's eyes draw you in. Her work compliments Toblerone's mission to entice it's audience into indulging in a high quality experience.
Using Photoshop, three portraits were selected for both their beauty and gaze of the subjects. The post of the figures were dynamic and interesting. The goal was to first draw the reader in with their gaze, and then invite them to explore the composition as they realize the figures are holding or interacting with the Toblerone bar. The framing and typographical elements were directly inspired by the Art Nouveau movement.
These exquisite portraits can be displayed with out the framing and obvious product placement as artwork or on various merchandise, subtly featuring the Toblerone bars. It's a fun tongue-in-cheek way to advertise the bar and allow others to enjoy Wegener's beautiful paintings.
