Description
Designing a movie poster and landing page for a cult classic
Context
The Dark Crystal is a dark fantasy film originally released in 1982 and has spawned a cult following with it's beautiful storyline, intriguing characters, and lore. It is a world of mystery and heroism, set in a world gasping for fresh air and healing. This project focused on developing an updated movie poster and landing page for both desktop web and mobile.
The Challenge
Utilizing Photoshop, a composite will need to be created using various art elements and blending together to create an engaging poster that will introduce the audience to the many characters and story elements. The poster needed to feature the iconic dark fantasy elements present in the film. It was important to create a sense of depth and ancient lore.
The Solution
To create a poster that reflected the same depth of lore and history as the movie, a background was first designed to have the style of an ancient manuscript and bordered by a landscape view of the land of Thra and the Skeksis' castle, the final destination of the story's journey. Background and figures combine to create a layered composite full of mysterious symbols, figures in action, and a message from the opening of the film that introduces us to the Hero's Journey, "Another world, Another time…In the Age of Wonder." Movie credits were meticulously typed and copied from the original theatrical depute. Alternate versions featured a CTA to view on Netflix.

Web & Mobile Landing Pages
Designed with both Photoshop and Figma, a prototype homepage was crafted to compliment the new poster. This site entices the audience to explore lore and history of the world of The Dark Crystal and with a scrolling video feature to introduce us to trailers, inside scenes and other productions like the Age of Resistance series.
